MEDIANS
Cambria’s colorful medians and sidewalk strip plantings showcase native flowers and plants, beautify our town and enhance the Main Street experience for residents and visitors.
In 2016, Beautify Cambria was asked by the Cambria Tourism Board to assume responsibility for maintenance of the medians. SLO County installed the medians but made no provision for their maintenance. At that time, irregular maintenance and watering had taken a toll, and the medians were weedy, dried out, bare in places and lacking color.
We arranged for a new watering schedule and pulled together a group of volunteers to perform plant maintenance. You might see us out there in our bright green vests deadheading and weeding, pruning, feeding and mulching, and replacing plants.
Median Makeover
The medians look much tidier, thanks to a gift of 4.5 yards of red organic pea gravel courtesy of a local donor. It sets off the plants beautifully, as our hard work of planting, weekly weeding and general maintenance is showing resuls. The plants are filling out nicely — and providing extra nourishment for our local butterflies.
WEEDY WEDNESDAYS
Wednesday is weeding day for Beautify Cambria’s median volunteers.
New weeders are always welcome!
